First of all, I hope all of you had a fun, safe, and relaxing holiday. Now, let’s get to some new picks that I am very excited about this week. We are all over the board with these ones this week and I cannot be more proud of the list we have to start the New Year!
WEEKLY MUST WATCH
THE EQUALIZER 3 (2023)
ACTION
NETFLIX
Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score: 94%
ROBERT MCCALL IS BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER! If you have been reading this newsletter, first, thank you, second, you know I love me a good action movie and this one was one of the best last year IMO. Look it’s old Denzel Washington taking out gangsters like a ninja, no other part of the story matters. I will say it again, IT’S DENZEL WASHINGTON TAKING DRUG DEALERS DOWN with his hands. If that doesn’t give you shades of Training Day, then please just exit out of this newsletter and walk away. This movie rocks and is the perfect appetizer for your weekend.
BINGE NOW
FARGO S5 (2023)
DRAMA
HULU
Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score: 93%
I have written about seasons of Fargo before and fell off a little in the middle cause to me the seasons did not quite deliver like the first two. BUT SEASON 5 is one of the BEST seasons of television EVER! I know I might be overly excited but this show rocks, you have Jon Hamm in one of the best villain roles ever playing a super right-wing sheriff in a small town in Minnesota. The characters, the story, and the action and build-up are chef’s kiss. The story follows a “normal” Minnesota woman who is kidnapped and is not what she seems, she is in fact a badass and almost assassin-like. The story unravels from there and the twists and turns and stories that come out of it will have you glued to your couch. Binge this one this weekend to get ready for the season finale this week!
THREE AND OUT:
SAN ANDRES (2015)
ACTION
AMAZON PRIME
Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score: 52%
You can’t start the New Year without a Dwayne “ The Rock” Johnson classic, San Andreas. I know what you’re thinking, WTF? Yeah I know, but this movie has it all, The Rock doing superhuman things, fighting nature to save his family. I LOVE this movie cause it’s so bad it’s good and the fact he is essentially trying to fight an earthquake is equal parts hilarious and cool. Watch this one with a BIG smile on your face.
TRAPPED (2002)
THRILLER
NETFLIX
Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score: 48%
I LOVED the early 2000s with their one-word titles that pretty much summed up the whole movie. This Charlize Theron movie is not one of her best but I will say it is one of her most entertaining because essentially she is trying to evade Kevin Bacon and Courtney Love? The early 2000s were great weren’t they? Look this is Charlize Theron HAMMING it up and throwing 100 in a movie that is not supposed to be as good as it is. This one had me on the edge of my seat. This movie has more twists and turns than a Rubix cube and did I mention Kevin Bacon is in it too? Take this one for what it is and don’t get TRAPPED in not making this one a must-watch this weekend.
MEG 2: THE TRENCH (2023)
ACTION/HORROR
NETFLIX
Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score: 73%
Again, if you read this newsletter you know that this movie is the type of slop that I love and I know all of you out there do too. I mean 73% audience score is ridiculous for a sequel about Jason Statham fighting multiple sharks. It should be a sci-fi TV movie but it works and works well. It’s more MEG, more shark action, and more Statham. What more do you need?
